Kevin Smith/Douglas Coupland do Webnation! [update]

The new episode of Webnation airs tonight at 11:35PM EST on CP24 (it will be online/in iTunes tomorrow afternoon). This week we have two pop-culture icons gracing the screen. Filmmaker turned blogger turned author Kevin Smith does a very funny webcam interview with Amber (with Amber being on the webcam this time), and Canadian author/artist Douglas Coupland talks about his latest novel The Gum Thief and his upcoming series based on JPod.

Both gents were a blast to meet and chat with, and Kevin Smith even signed my LaserDisc copy of Chasing Amy (which is now going up on my office wall in one of those album frames).

Jane Goodall Rocks!

Amber interviewed Jane Goodall last night for Webnation, and I had the honor of meeting her during the taping. She was amazing! Not only is she the sweetest lady in the world - she is funny and witty (and cool). As I mentioned to a fried today - it's like hanging with your grandmother who just happens to be the leading chimpanzee researcher in the world.

The interview airs tomorrow night during Webnation on CP24, and will be online and in iTunes on Friday afternoon.

Barbapapa?

I don't ever recall watching Barbapapa when I was a child. I have been told the show was on Canadian television a lot in the early 80's. I think I would remember shape-shifting blobs with names like Barbamama, Barbabright, Barbazoo, and of course Barbapapa!

After doing some research I have found that Barbapapa began as a series of children books in France before making the leap to television (the books were later released in other languages as well). The show was under ten minutes in length and had a worldwide audience. You can catch an episode below to get a feel of what it was all about. Personally I find the voices annoying as hell but am intrigued by the concept.

Reviews, reviews, reviews!

I have reviewed a lot of stuff the last couple of weeks over at Criticize This! (the latest addition to BAMCAT, Inc.). Along with Cate Jones (movies), Greg Hood-Morris (music), and Madclan (comics); we have new reviews posted daily.

Some of the things I have reviewed recently are the LG SuperBlu (Blu-Ray/HD-DVD combo player), the 300 HD-DVD, and the first episode of the new season of Weeds (which premieres tonight on Showtime). We also have reviews of the movie Sunshine, the new Spoon album, and the television show Chuck.

Drop us a line if there is something you would like to see us review, and make sure to subscribe to our feed over at criticizethis.net.

Jennifer Aniston spoofing swimsuit models

Check out this old video of Jennifer Aniston in a Sports Illustrated swimsuit model spoof (no embeddable player). It's funny to see a young Aniston actually acting (pre Friends of course) and making a fool of herself. Guess she's too good for this kind of work now?

The Rocky & Bullwinkle Show - Moon Mice

A big part of my childhood was spent watching The Rocky & Bullwinkle Show on Saturday mornings. This clip with the Moon Mice made me realize just how funny the show really was.

Mary Louise Parker's Ass

To promote season 3 of her hit show Weeds, Mary Louise Parker is baring it all and showing off her hot tush for a great ad campaign.

Weeds returns August 13th at 10:00PM on Showtime in the U.S. (Showcase in Canada). Also of note is that the Showtime website is now available to people living outside of the U.S. now (see my original post on not being able to view the site).

Insane Japanese Breastfeeding Commercial

I thought bizarre weather forecasts and weird toilet training videos were strange but this takes the cake!

Be scared. Very scared.

Webnation - now in widescreen!

Last week not only marked the release of Webnation #5 (featuring a great interview with Gene Simmons re: NGTV) - it also marked the beginning of us releasing the show in widescreen...on the web!

This rocks for many reasons. For starters - the show is actually shot in a 16 x 9 aspect ratio but aired on television in the standard 4 x 3 ratio. For the first four episodes I had to resize the entire show (from 16x9 to 4x3) before exporting it for the web. This took forever and it lowered the video quality (the quality is still not where I want it but it's getting there).

You'll notice the screenshots and video clips we grab from the net are still not widescreen but we are moving in the right direction (with hopes that the show will soon air in 16 x 9 on TV as well). A big bonus is that it looks amazing on an AppleTV or XBOX 360 hooked up to a widescreen television.

I'm working on getting the best quality video out to the viewers and would love to hear your feedback. Drop me a line or post a comment.

PS: commandN 91 is now online too ;)
