Don't do it Owen!

I've been at the cottage for the last few days with nothing but dial-up Internet (too slow to actually use) and no TV! So when I returned today to news that Owen Wilson tried to commit suicide I was horrified! Owen is one of my favourite actors. I loved him in Wedding Crashers and Zoolander, enjoyed his performance in The Royal Tennenbaums, and from the trailer for The Darjeeling Limited, I think I'm going to have to add this to my list!

Owen - if you're listening - please don't do it! You are too good an actor (and person) to off yourself. You're young, you have a big career ahead of you, and friends/family who care (I'm sure Luke cares). From a fan, DON'T DO IT!

Break Dancing Baby

I sometimes wonder who teaches their kids to do crap like this? Seriously, last week it was Baby Ninjas and now we have a break dancing baby! Is it really worth it just to get famous on YouTube?

Camp Okutta

We did a story on Camp Okutta this week for CityNews International. The "camp" is actually a campaign done by War Child Canada to bring awareness to children living in war zones. Some people are upset over it (especially in Toronto where there is print ads running too), but I feel they did a great job delivering the message. Watch the camp promo below and let me know your thoughts.

Free BioShock Score!

2K Games just released the score for the amazing XBOX 360/Windows game BioShock - for FREE! Check out The Cult of Rapture site to download it now.

More info on the score from 2K Games:

The score was created by film, television and video game composer Garry Schyman and features a combination of early twentieth century writing, aleatoric elements, musique concrete, traditional tonal and late romantic styles that capture the distinct retro-futuristic aesthetic of the game.

The Return of Public Enemy

When I heard that all the music videos for Public Enemy were now online I got really excited. I've been a fan of PE since Fear of a Black Planet hit back in the day. Their new album - How You Sell Soul to a Soulless People Who Sold Their Soul??? has been playing in my car for the last two weeks, proving they still have what it takes to make great music. Check out the video for Harder Than You Think (the first single) below.

Barbapapa?

I don't ever recall watching Barbapapa when I was a child. I have been told the show was on Canadian television a lot in the early 80's. I think I would remember shape-shifting blobs with names like Barbamama, Barbabright, Barbazoo, and of course Barbapapa!

After doing some research I have found that Barbapapa began as a series of children books in France before making the leap to television (the books were later released in other languages as well). The show was under ten minutes in length and had a worldwide audience. You can catch an episode below to get a feel of what it was all about. Personally I find the voices annoying as hell but am intrigued by the concept.

Child Beater vs. Baby Ninjas

A friend of mine at work brought this video to my attention and I haven't stopped laughing since. Child Beater is a very well choreographed video by Hollywood Ninja Pictures. It pits two pre-school ninjas against their child beating father in one of the funniest routines I've seen. It's all in fun - no kids were harmed in the making! They also have a sequel called Child Beater 2 which is even more over the top.

Hot Dog Toaster?

If you have an extra $50 burning a hole in your pocket you might be interested in the Pop-Up Hot Dog Cooker. This takes the grand prize in the category of completely useless devices! From the description:

Operating much like a pop-up toaster, this unique kitchen appliance lets you easily prepare two hot dogs (complete with toasted buns) in minutes.

Yeah - so does my microwave, BBQ, and stove. It's not that hard to cook a hot dog these days. Who really needs this?

Hotdogs
The most useless device in the world!
